Quote: A system like that would be able to give ships like the armageddon or the thorax a much better chance against the caldari missile-boats.
Great, so the Thorax will have no downside to it and become an uber-cruiser. With its 5 turret slots it can afford to toss one away for missile defense and still pack a hefty punch. I can see why you wouldn't consider smartbombs to be a viable alternative since that kills your drones. A Thorax with its drones and with this new anti-missile defense there is not much to stop it.
Every ship should have an Achille's Heel. For the Thorax it is missiles.

Quote: What is the Achiles Heel for the Caracal? It can mount 5 Launchers so it has one or two to spare for Defender missles?
The Caracal is a slow ship (very sluggish) and not particularly durable as cruisers go. With its somewhat low capacitor it can't run much for very long (i.e. afterburners to maintain its distance). Go get next to one and it is toast. Since it is slow it really won't be able to keep separation from most cruisers or frigates that want to do this.

I might add that the whole trick to using missiles is overwhelming the opponents defenses. If I have 2 launchers with Defenders and you have 2 launchers tossing cruise missiles at me you are very unlikely to ever score a hit. If a Caracal has 2 launchers filled with Defenders and three with cruise (or whatever) against my 2 Defender missile launchers the Caracal is still unlikely to score a hit. Especially if I use Assault Launchers that fire very quickly and the Caracal is using standard or heavy launchers.
The Caracal really needs to use all 5 launchers offensively to have a chance at getting a ship with modest missile defense as it is. If you don't have missile defense that is your own lookout and you are in trouble. If you are in a ship doesn't really have missile defenses (e.g. Thorax) then you need to close distance on the Caracal ASAP. Depending on the Thorax's speed, the Caracal's speed, what missiles the Caracal is firing and luck determines whether the Thorax can make it or not. Once the Thorax is on top of the Caracal it is pretty much all over for the Caracal. If you are in an Arma or Dom chances are you can beat down the Caracal long range before he beats you anyway.
All tactics. This is way mixed formations of ships are a good idea. Different ships can make up for what your ship lacks to either defend you or go kill the things that hurt you most before they get you.

Quote: You could also implement other types of drones, such as single use warp scramblers etc.
If you get warp scrambling drones then I want warp scrambling missiles. Upon impact they scramble for, say, 30 seconds till the effect wears off. While we're at it I want web missiles too.

Quote: I agree with the point that every ship must have a weakness, but to say that two Battleships (the Dominix and Armegeddon) can have no defense against a missile apart from their shields and hull seems crazy to me.
The Arma and Dom can have missile defense. Smartbombs.
